Write a resume headline
Write a concise resume headline that identifies relevant role, specialization, and credible value without unsupported superlatives.
Use evidence and recognizable role language rather than a slogan.
When to use
- Use beneath a candidate name or at the start of a profile.
- Do not claim a title, credential, clearance, or level the candidate does not hold.
Procedure
- Identify the target role, seniority, domain, audience, and wording used in the job description.
- Inventory verified experience, specialty, industry context, credentials, and strongest relevant outcome.
- Choose one role label the candidate can defend.
- Add one or two differentiators that the experience section proves.
- Remove first-person language, empty adjectives, keyword strings, objectives, and private details.
- Keep the line scannable and avoid repeating the contact block or next sentence.
- Compare it with the target role and test whether every phrase is supported elsewhere.
Worked example
Instead of “Visionary results-driven ninja,” a candidate with verified platform and reliability work uses “Platform engineer | Kubernetes reliability and developer tooling.” Both specialties are demonstrated in later bullets.
