Prepare for an executive interview

Prepare for an executive interview with evidence on mandate, strategy, operating scope, governance, people, risk, stakeholders, and first priorities.

When to use

  • Use for senior leadership, board-facing, public, or regulated roles.
  • Do not invent scale, outcomes, board exposure, crisis authority, or confidential detail.

Procedure

  1. Clarify mandate, decision rights, stakeholders, financial scope, risk, and public obligations.
  2. Build verified evidence for direction, delivery, people, governance, change, crisis, and learning.
  3. Distinguish direct authority, influence, sponsorship, and team outcome.
  4. Prepare strategic hypotheses labeled as hypotheses, not insider conclusions.
  5. Rehearse concise tradeoffs, failures, ethics, and first-priority answers.
  6. Prepare diligence questions on authority, health, expectations, support, and constraints.

Failure plan

  • State evidence limits rather than filling confidential or unknown gaps.

Worked example

A candidate explains a failed transformation with owned decisions and verified recovery instead of blaming a predecessor.
