Working Resume skill

Prepare an internal job application

Prepare an internal application using verified impact, transferable context, and careful relationship boundaries.

Procedure

  1. Read the role, internal policy, eligibility, confidentiality, timeline, process, and manager-notification rules.
  2. Separate what is known internally from what the selection panel still needs evidenced.
  3. Map accomplishments, collaboration, organizational knowledge, and growth to the new role's outcomes.
  4. Identify conflicts, reporting relationships, confidential work, current commitments, and transition implications.
  5. Prepare a tailored resume, statement, examples, questions, and portfolio within permitted access.
  6. Decide when and how to inform the current manager based on policy, safety, and personal circumstances.
  7. Request references or sponsors without asking anyone to bypass the process.
  8. Plan both selection and nonselection conversations, work continuity, feedback, and relationship care.

Guardrails

  • Do not use confidential candidate information, privileged access, informal promises, or political pressure.
  • Never assume current reputation substitutes for a complete application.
  • Protect the person's safety and privacy where manager notification could create retaliation risk.
