List technical skills on a resume

Organize technical skills by relevant capability, current proficiency evidence, and recognizable terminology.

Include skills the candidate can discuss and demonstrate.

When to use

  • Use for software, data, design, laboratory, engineering, operations, or specialist roles.
  • Do not copy every job-description keyword or claim proficiency from one brief exposure.

Procedure

  1. Extract required and preferred capabilities from the target role.
  2. Build an evidence inventory linking each skill to recent projects, decisions, duration, or verified outputs.
  3. Use current, recognizable names and distinguish languages, frameworks, platforms, tools, methods, and credentials.
  4. Group for human scanning and machine parsing without decorative rating bars.
  5. Order by role relevance and evidence strength.
  6. Remove obsolete, trivial, duplicate, or unsupported items unless the role explicitly needs them.
  7. Check spelling, versions where material, confidentiality, and consistency with experience bullets.
  8. Prepare a truthful explanation or example for every listed item.
