Identify transferable skills

Translate real work, study, care, service, and community experience into portable skill evidence.

Procedure

  1. Define the target work, tasks, environment, constraints, and evidence standard.
  2. Inventory paid work, study, projects, volunteering, care, community, creative, and self-directed experience.
  3. Extract actions, decisions, tools, collaborators, difficulty, scale, and observable outcomes from specific examples.
  4. Group evidence into skills such as analysis, coordination, communication, service, craft, learning, and judgment.
  5. Separate demonstrated skill from interest, exposure, unsupported confidence, and formal credential.
  6. Translate each skill into the target context without copying jargon that changes its meaning.
  7. Identify gaps and design small projects, practice, coursework, or references that could close them honestly.
  8. Save the evidence in an achievement or portfolio record with source notes.

Guardrails

  • Do not claim expertise, credentials, authority, scale, or outcomes that the evidence does not support.
  • Never dismiss unpaid, care, disability, community, or nontraditional experience, but respect privacy boundaries.
  • Do not force every experience to fit the target role.
