Prepare a networking introduction

Prepare a natural introduction that connects real work, current interest, and the setting.

Procedure

  1. Define the setting, people, available time, relationship, goal, and privacy boundary.
  2. Choose a simple name and current-context opening that is accurate today.
  3. Add one specific area of work, learning, or contribution supported by a real example.
  4. Connect that experience to why this conversation or community is relevant.
  5. End with a genuine question, shared topic, or low-pressure next step.
  6. Prepare ten-second, thirty-second, and conversational versions.
  7. Say each version aloud and remove titles, claims, or jargon that sound unnatural.
  8. Adapt after listening rather than repeating the script regardless of the other person.

Guardrails

  • Do not exaggerate seniority, access, clients, employers, achievements, or relationships.
  • Never demand a referral, job, private contact, or immediate commitment.
  • Respect the other person's time, signals, and right to end the conversation.
