Adapt a resume for an international market

Adapt a resume for another country's language, conventions, privacy expectations, credential context, and application rules.

Verify local requirements from current official or employer sources.

When to use

  • Use when role location, hiring market, language, or regulatory context differs from the original resume.
  • Do not guess work authorization, convert grades or credentials falsely, or add photos, age, family status, identity numbers, or health details without a valid requirement and informed choice.

Procedure

  1. Confirm employer, role location, working language, application system, and current official instructions.
  2. Research local document names, typical length, date format, address convention, photo expectations, privacy law, and discrimination risk.
  3. Preserve original titles and credentials, adding a plain explanation or verified equivalence rather than renaming them.
  4. Translate for professional meaning with a bilingual review of domain terms, names, organizations, and achievements.
  5. Convert currencies or units only with date, source, and preserved original where useful.
  6. State work authorization or relocation only from verified facts and only where relevant.
  7. Remove locally inappropriate personal data and explain career gaps proportionately.
  8. Test file format, fonts, reading order, dates, links, and portal parsing.
  9. Obtain a market-aware review without letting convention override truth or safety.
